Micah arrived in the autumn of 2003. He was born safely and very rapidly. He was alert for a while but needed a kind of blood-transfusion, called an exchange transfusion, because he had too many red blood cells and was very sleepy.
We all adore him. He is charming, playful and responsive. For more on Micah visit his home page:

Micah has "Trisomy 21" which means he has three copies of chromosome 21 instead of two. This means that he has Down's syndrome. A syndrome is a collection of features. Most of the features of Down's syndrome also occur in people who have the regular chromosome arrangement. You might notice that Micah is different from most other babies in a few ways:
The most distinctive difference we see is that Micah is very charming, good-natured, sociable and sensitive to the feelings of those around him - even though he is at the time of writing (Jan 26, 2004) only four months old! Also you may see:
a few details in the appearance of his hands, face and feet;
rather floppy muscle tone which makes it harder for Micah to do things like sucking and holding his head straight;
and he is smaller than most babies his age.
And we can expect some developmental delay and learning difficulty.
