Esquire Magazine (May 1999) Article about Portia's Eating Habits Her big green eyes look right through you, and her translucent skin says "Do not touch," and just when you are ready to turn and walk away, Portia de Rossi lets down her hair - that cascade of blond silk whose well-timed release from the bun that contained it made de Rossi an instant star on Fox's Ally McBeal. Thanks to that moment with the bobby pins in the TV law firm's coed bathroom, de Rossi has captured the hearts of more than a few men who were previously wed to Monday Night Football. On the show, she plays Nelle, the tall, super-intelligent attorney whose icy composure and voluptuous curves serve as the perfect foil to the bonily hysterical Ally. And while Merica is hungry for proof that Ally eats at all, Portia, conveniently tableside here, makes no bones about what pleases her palate. "I really miss my comfort food from home," says the native Australian. "I miss the big meat pies and the potato cakes. Oh, and I love the sausage rolls." And though it might be hard to picture porcelain Portia pigging out on meat pies, her television alter ego is easier to peg. "Sushi. I can spot a raw-meat eater from far away, and Nelle is definitely a raw-meat eater." |
