IS SOPHIE NO1 POP PINS-UP?

Leggy Sophie Ellis-Bextor is battling it out with cart rivals in a great Sun poll to find the Sexiest Pins in Pop.

We're pitting Sophie. 5ft 9in and with a 36in inside leg, against Kylie Minogue, Victoria Beckham and Britney Spears.

And you can select the winner by emailing us with your favourite.

Sophie, 22, tipped to hit No.1 this week with Murder on the Dancefloor, admits she hated her pins after school pals nicknamed her Mummy Long Legs.

She said: "I always wore trousers, thinking they were all giggling. I've only recently had the confidence to wear short skirts."

Perfectly formed Kylie, 33, is bound to be a main rival - even though she is just over 5ft.

Shapely Posh Spice, 27, is another favourite, while Britney, 20, is famed for her raunchy dance movies.

ROBBIE ON HIS BUST-UP WITH GERI HALLIWELL AND WHAT HE THINKS OF SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR

In an interview with an journalist for the Sunday Times Magazine.

....At least Geri, who's currently dating multi-millionaire investment banker Bobby Hashemi, can console herself by knowing she's not alone in feeling the sharp tongue of Robbie's tongue. In the same interview, he also swipe at another female pop star, Sophie Ellis-Bextor. "She's got a face like a satellite dish and my Nan's ankles," Robbie bitched.

Perhaps he'd read Sophie's comments in NOW, when she said she wasn't interested in Robbie or his music and that she'd turned down the chance to support him on tour.

"I think by turning down his music I've probably turned down the man," Sophie said in August. "I'm sure I've burnt my bridges as far as the dating part between Robbie and I is concerned."

But if Geri's experience with Robbie is anything to go by, Sophie probably has no regrets about that at all.

YOU BEXY THING

Looking at this shot everyone would agree Sophie Ellis Bextor oozes sex appeal - except Sophie.

Despite appearing in a basque, frilly knickers and fishnet tights, the 22 year old singer insists she lags behind in the glamour stakes.

Sophie tells December's Arena magazine: "I think it's very unsexy to think of yourself as sexy."

Article about Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her hair modelling career

Star was a hair model before Spiller.

These striking photographs of Sophie Ellis-Bextor were taken when she was a model, just starting out on the road to fame. Instead of her trademark sleek bob and chic designer outfits, the singer is stripped bare with dramatic gothic make-up and huge outlandish hair - wearing only a string of beads to protect her modesty.

Hairdresser Stuart Phillips had been entered into the British Hairdressing Awards and Sophie was one of the eight models he selected to pose for the entry. "I was chatting to Sophie as I did her hair and I asked her if she did anything else," recalls Stuart. "She said she was a singer. I asked if she was doing well and she said not particularly. She was really down to earth and underplayed everything. Two months later she was Number One in the charts."

Sophie loved the dramatic look that Stuart created for her, which was achieved with hair extensions and striking black make-up, "Sophie has got beautiful skin so we decided to bear a little bit of it and just wear the beads. She wasn't at all shy," reveals Stuart.

Loyal Sophie still goes to Stuart's Covent Garden salon to get her hair done and is extremely proud of the photograph which hangs on the wall. "She sometimes comes in with her friends and shows them the pictures," she Stuart fondly.

Sophie's first musical outing was fronting indie band theaudience. When they were dropped by their record label, Sophie was signed up by Premier Models. She modelled lingerie, jewellery and clothes but was only too happy to get back to music when offered a collaboration with Italian DJ Spiller. Sophie has now left modelling for good. "She's concentrating on music now," says a spokesman. She's already enjoyed a solo success with her debut single Take Me Home and her album Read My Lips, is out now.

Sophie's fans will also be able to see if she can cut the mustard live when she performs her first solo show at The Scala in London on Wednesday 3 October.

London Fashion Week Show

What a boob! Fashion pundits thought this stunner had forgotten her blouse as she hit the catwalk yesterday.

But the model was only handed a skirt to wear by British designers Antoni & Allison. No wonder she looks so startled at the London Fashion Week show.

At least pop beauty Sophie Ellis-Bextor could see the funny side. Smiling Sophie, 22, joined the fun in the audience - and got HER titfer out for the lads.

Article in Starstyle Feature about Fashion

You've been known to haunt charity shops - what are you looking for?

Mainly vintage clothes, including old bits and bobs - things that you know you're not going to see anyone else wearing. A few of the charity shops in places like Notting Hill are good, but mostly it's places that specializes in older classics, like London's Portobello market, that do the best stuff. I wear a lot of classic '50's styles in the video for Take Me Home

What's the biggest bargain you've unearthed?

I went to visit a friend at university in Edinburgh and discovered an old ballgown in a second hand shop. It was red and orange with a huge flowing skirt and it only cost me £30. I've only worn it once, to a friend's 21st birthday party but it was wonderful. It made me feel quite special.

Apparently you go online for clothes, too - what a shopaholic!

I know. I go to places like eBay looking for stuff. I buy loads of things that way, even furniture. It's an amazing place, you can find anything there. I do love to shop and I'll can find the money for something I want, even if I'm broke. If I go shopping with friends, I'll be the one to come home with the most bags.

What kind of shoes suit you?

I'm partial to anything with heels really, as long as they're not too clumpy or have straps that wrap around the ankle. There's a place called Fantasy Shoes in Camden, north London, that's good. I have a pair of custom-made gold ones I bought there that cost £250. Only the owner's wife and I have a pair. I've worn them loads, so I've got my money's worth. I'd never appear in public in trainers, but I do slum around in a pair of old Addidas ones at homes.

You've got very high cheekbones - do you apply make-up in a particular way to accentuate them?

Thanks, but not really. A bit of orange blusher plus some green or turquoise above the eyes and plenty of kohl eyeliner is my signature make-up style. I always pay careful attention to what the stylists tell me and I've been heavily into make-up since school. I have a massive bag of colours to rummage through. The brands I go for tend to be Estee Lauder and Stila. I'm the sort of person who gets exited when I see a make-up counter in a department store.

What would you not be seen dead in?

Anything too loose and baggy. I'm quite curvy, with an hourglass figure, so i need clothes that accentuate it. No baggy T-shirts for me, not even in bed. I remember I spent one week when I was 14 and it literally was just a week, in a lumberjack shirt and Caterpillar boots because grange style was in, but I felt like a builder and it's didn't last.

What's your ideal combination?

I tend not to wear trousers. I have a dressing room at home with all my clothes in, but it only contains two pairs of trousers -  a pair of Earl jeans and a pair of dark slacks. My ideal combo is a pencil skirt, which goes with lots of things. I'm always searching for the definitive pencil skirt - Warehouse does a good one and Vivienne Westwood makes a more upmarket version.

Do you have a fashion icon?

There isn't really anyone I want to copy. The joy of clothes is finding something that suits you as an individual. Someone like Kate Moss has that ability to put stuff together and make it appear as if she's just flung clothes on, yet still looks lovely.

What about Audrey Hepburn?

A classic look definitely, but she wore more flatter shoes that I do.

What was the last thing you brought?

I went to a vintage shop the other day and brought a dress by a popular '80s designer called Ungaro, who's usually really expensive. It's a short skirt and strapless top with a little veil hanging down at the back. It cost £70 but was probably more like £500 at the time.

Is there any specific designer you always go for?

Not really. I'm not an expert on designer brands by any means - I'm still been weaned off the high street. I like to pick and mix from various people and places.

Is there anything you've worn at a photo shoot that you just had to take home?

I tend to use my own clothes in shoots. The ones in recent issues of the Face and Loaded were all mine. I know my body better that any stylist.

If you had one beauty tip to share with Now readers, what would it be?

Use fake nails - especially if you tend to bite your own. I always have false ones on when I appear on TV and they're always painted a really strong shade of red or pink.

So Sophie-sticated

Nice to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor isn't a slave to designer clothes like most celebrities.

The feline-star sported an outfit comprised mostly of High Street names for the premiere of Moulin Rouge.

She wore a stylish black skirt from Kookai, her red vest came from Hennes and her Vivienne Westwood black jacket pushed up the price tag for the outfit.

However, the singer, whose album Read my Lips was released this week, was clutching her best bargain - a swish black leather Prada handbag.

"It was 20 quid in Bangkok actually," she proudly told us. "Totally fake."

Article in the Jane Moore Column

What is it about Sophie Ellis-Bextor?

The media saturation over the past two weeks has been astonishing with a couple of breathless interviewers even writing as if they are in the presence of pop royalty.

Marie Clare magazine went so far as to call her "a pop phenomenon."

Let's just recap on Sophie's pedigree so far. The daughter of a former Blue Peter presenter, she sang on last summer's excellent hit If This Ain't Love,

It was by an Italian DJ called Spiller, who could equally have chosen any other pouting model type with a half decent voice to front it.

Now Sophie has her first solo single out, a rather plodding cover version of the old number by Cher, Take Me Home. All admirable, I'm sure, but she is hardly Madonna or Alanis Morissette is she?

The jury's still out on exactly whether Ms Ellis-Bextor will make a lasting impression in the fickle world of pop.

But there's little doubt her publicist is first rate.
