Welcome to Long Wittenham
On Easter Monday (28th March) between 10.00 AM and 1.00 PM the village saw a flurry of activity as a fabulous collection of 37 teams wandered (and in many cases were pushed or carried) around in glorious sunshine on the "Long Wittenham Easter Treasure Egg Hunt". Every team got a respectable score, and all the children (including the 'big kids') seemed to enjoy the actual Egg Hunt.
We pass on our thanks to everyone involved, whether you donated prizes; helped us run the event; or if you took part - and we only hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. As the first event in support of our ladies Dragon Boat Team the "Wittenham Warriors", it got us off to a fantastic start and we raised £275 in support of our chosen charities : Against Breast Cancer; the Village School, and the Preschool.
Please look out for further events to follow.
There were prizes for the top 10 finishers, but special mention goes to the following teams :
1st Place "The Buggies" 38 points - Easter Egg + £20 meal Voucher
2nd Place "Pretty in Pink" 37 points - Easter Egg + 10% off meal Voucher
3rd Place "Warricks" 36 points - Easter Egg + Kids Eat Free meal Voucher
4th Place "Hard Rock" 35 points - Easter Egg + Kids Eat Free meal Voucher
Several teams managed to get 34 points, so these were separated by time taken. There were a total of 26 raffle prizes, and a list of the winners have been posted on the Village Hall notice Board.
Whilst it was meant to be simple fun, there were a few tricky questions thrown in just to keep you on your toes. You may be interested in their answers :
- If you overtake the person in second pplace in a race, then you now become 2nd place (not First !)
- The "Who Laid Me" eggs were : Duck, Gooose, Hen, Bantam, Quail, Easter Bunny – or similar
- You cannot overtake the person in lastt place, as you are in last place
- The last postage time "Today" was 11.000 AM, not 4.30 PM - as the Hunt was on a Bank Holiday
- Marie's Father had 5 Daughters : Chachha, Cheche; Chichi; Chocho - and Marie (not Chuchu !)
- 1000 + 40 + 1000 + 30 + 1000 + 20 + 10000 + 10 = 4100 (not 5000)
- Finally, all you had to do to rearrangge the "Eggstra" words into the right order was to remember the adverts as they were included on the bottom.
