Kiwi Scot Dixon is reportedly eyeing a move out of the IRL Indycar Series to the F1 World Championship.
The Target Chip Ganassi driver, who took his second IRL victory of the year at Richmond last weekend, is rumoured to be trying to set up an F1 test with one of the championship's front running teams. Dixon is powered by a Toyota engine in the IRL and a test with the Toyota F1 team would be a natural opportunity for the talented 23 year old.
Dixon signed for Chip Ganassi towards the end of the 2002 Champ Car season after the PacWest team pulled out the championship. Despite voicing his disappointment at being forced to switch to the all-oval IRL with Ganassi, the New Zealander has been a revelation, winning the opening race at the Homestead oval and again at the Richmond night race last weekend.
But Dixon's door to F1 may however have closed before it opened with the Toyota F1 team reporting that they are not considering any changes to their driver line-up next season. Frenchman Olivier Panis and CART champion Christiano Da Matta are expected to remain with the team for 2004 leaving Dixon to hunt for other options or wait until 2005.
