Felipe Giaffone and IRL newcomer Tony Kanaan topped the timesheets during the IRL's annual 'Test in the West' sessions held at the Fontana and Phoenix ovals.
Giaffone made good use of tows from other cars during his runs at Fontana to set a lap time 2 miles per hour quicker than anyone else in his Mo Nunn G-Force-Toyota. Chip Ganassi racer Tomas Scheckter made it a one-two for G-Force chassis with second fastest time.
Speaking about his fastest time Giaffone said: "The timing was just right. I had two big drafts, I had new tyres and I was lucky to have everyone else in front of me."
Andretti-Green racers Kanaan and Franchitti were third and fourth fastest respectively in their Dallara-Honda's.
Fontana Top Speeds:
1. Giaffone (225.714mph) G-Force
2. Scheckter (223.186mph) G-Force
3. Kanaan (222.547mph) Dallara
4. Franchitti (222.534mph) Dallara
5. DeFerran (222.525mph) Dallara
When testing moved to Phoenix, Tony Kanaan was fastest after rain delayed the start by two and half hours. Kiwi Scot Dixon was second in his G-Force Toyota followed by the trio of Dallara-Toyota's of DeFerran, Castroneves and Brack.
"We have a really good car in both qualifying and race trim," said Kanaan.
Phoenix Top Speeds:

2. Dixon (176.245mph) G-Force
3. DeFerran (176.053mph) Dallara
