Colin McRae believes he still has a shot at a second World Rally title despite his retirement from the Rally New Zealand.
McRae's Citroen Xsara landed heavily during the sixth stage of the rally causing terminal damage and forcing him out of an event he believed he could win. But the Scot is undeterred: "This was a disappointment, not a disaster."
McRae is joint third in the World Championship and despite trailing leader Richard Burns by nine points the known speed of the Xsara on asphalt rallies and McRae's gravel prowess have given him cause for quiet optimism. Of his title chances he said: "There's still an awful lot to happen yet, not least with the asphalt rallies at the end of the year. It's just a matter of staying as close to the front as possible."
