The IRL Indycar Series first trip to Japan could be jeopardised by conflict in the Middle East.
The championship is due to compete at Honda's Twin-Ring Motegi oval on 13th April, the third round of the 2003 IRL series. But series organisers are monitoring the situation in the Middle East closely in case the need arises to cancel the race.
An IRL spokesman said: "We have to monitor the world situation and be as intelligent and well informed as we can be."
The IRL has had discussions with teams and engine suppliers on the issue of military conflict. However a decision will have to be made before the end of the first week in April, to stop the shipment of cars and equipment to Japan for the race.
