Five-time world champion Michael Schumacher is still confident about his chances of securing a record-breaking sixth world title, despite a disappointing start to the season.
Schumacher has scored just eight points in the first three Grand Prix of the 2003 season, leaving him in the unusual position of playing catch up to McLaren rivals Kimmi Raikkonen and David Coulthard. But the German believes there is nothing to worry about.
"When you have won so much and unexpectedly you stop winning then people start asking questions. But that's racing. It's normal that after such a long period of triumphs that the time comes when things go less well," commented Schumacher.
Recent performances have led many to speculate that Schumacher has much to worry about facing up to the reality that they no longer have a clear advantage over rivals McLaren. A number of costly errors in the opening races have hinted there are more chinks in the German's armour than was originally thought. But Schumacher accepts he has made mistakes in recent weeks and hopes the remainder of the season sees a return to smoother sailing: "I have made some mistakes. I have made so many in these first races that I hope I have used them all up."
What is in little doubt is Schumacher's eagerness to get his hands on the new F2003 - GA racer which is scheduled to appear at the Spanish Grand Prix in May: "Just wait and see the new car, the work...has been done to make it better than the old one..."
