Subaru's Petter Solberg is confident of his chances in this weekend's Rally of New Zealand.
The Norwegian will have a prime opportunity to challenge for victory running further down the starting order on an event that traditionally penalises drivers running first on the road
"New Zealand is a really good gravel event, I know the stages quite well now and have a good road position on Leg One." said the Subaru star.
Championship leaders Richard Burns and Colin McRae are however hoping for a spot of rain before the rally leaves Auckland. Both will have to run at the front of the pack for the duration of day one and will struggle for traction as they sweep away the loose gravel for competitors behind. But drivers such as Solberg who have had an indifferent start to the season will be looking to reap their rewards on the fast stages of New Zealand and Solberg is out to make up for the disappointment of last season where he broke down on the penultimate stage of the rally.
"I have also completed three days of testing in the UK, one of which was dedicated to establishing the set-up of the Impreza for New Zealand... hopefully it should be a good event for us. How good we will just have to wait and see, " remarked Solberg.
