Michael Schumacher stormed to pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix as Ferrari re-ignited their World Championship charge.
Schumacher led home team-mate Rubens Barrichello in a scarlet one-two in Barcelona, emphasising the speed of the new F2003-GA and sending a warning to championship leaders McLaren. Both Ferrari's eclipsed the best time set by Spaniard Fernando Alonso, much to the disappointment of the local support. Alonso ended qualifying in third alongside his team-mate Jarno Trulli.
Championship leader Kimmi Raikkonen had a disappointing session, bouncing across the gravel trap. The Finn aborted his lap and will start the race tomorrow from the back of the grid while team-mate David Coulthard took eighth despite having to run his spare car due to an engine failure.
