Citroen need improvements to their Xsara World Rally car if they are to seriously challenge rival Peugeot this season according to Carlos Sainz.
The double World Champion speaking to the British press is concerned by the performance of Citroen relative to Peugeot and fears that it does not bode well for the remaining fast gravel rallies on the WRC calendar. He said: "The results we got in New Zealand are not as promising as what we are expecting for Finland."
While Citroen has won two rallies out of four so far this season, Marcus Gronholm and Peugeot after winning in Sweden and taking victory last time out in New Zealand. Sainz is fully aware of the need for Citroen to push forward to maintain momentum: "We will have to keep on working."
Citroen Engineering director Claude Vaucard echoed Sainz's comments by suggesting that the team needs to work on finding better power for corner exits in order to properly challenge Peugeot.
