I've noticed quite a few knitting blogs recently and not being one to miss a passing bandwagon I'd thought I'd join in. If you like to know about more about me read on….

Has it really been that long?

I didn't realise I was neglecting my blog but it would appear that I have been, sorry!  I will make a supreme effort to do better. Shouldn't be too hard as I've been knitting far too many things recently. I must try  to borrow a digital camera again soon for some pics.

Saturday morning arrived with something very heavy landing on the door mat, 'The Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook'! Obviously it was compulsory for me to return to bed with a cup of tea for a good read.  Although I've been knitting socks for a while now I've never really designed my own, I love the patterns you can get with Opal and Regia etc but Lynne Vogel's book suggests I can do my own! She explains it in a sensible way to. Almost so sensible that I want to dye, spin and  knit for the next pair! However a little restraint has been exercised. I have  ordered a rainbow selection of dyed tops and will have a little play, just to check I can remember how to spin before I get too carried away. I foresee a little hitch, if Jack (Full name Jack Daniels, landlord's cat for those who haven't heard me moan before) won't leave a ball of yarn alone what's he going to do to a drop spindle?!?! Not an immediate problem as Doreen from Scottish Fibres had such a success weekend she has sold out of rainbow packs, I told her I could probably find a little something to knit in the meantime…

Projects started in the last few weeks include

Creek from the Rowan Denim Collection
Petula from Rowan 31
Another pair of Regia socks, toe up this time just o see if I like it.
And yes, I'm still going on my surprise Rowan exchange gift, I've run out of ribbon but have made the lining, can't say anymore.

Finally
Happy Nurses' Day! Nope, I didn't know there was such a thing either but a poster in the card shop window reliably informs me it is today

Settling in

Well the move happened and here I am in my new abode complete with much faster internet connection. At one point I though I'd never make it let alone get my deposit on my last flat back. This wasn't helped by my moving assistant's attempt to check the top of the wardrobe, one little jump on the bed was followed by one huge crack!  One less bed slat (I apologise to the new occupant if the bed is a little uncomfy).

Counter

My new residence is in a house with a garden! Ok, it's not a great garden and I'm only the lodger but having lived in flats for almost 5 years now any outdoor space is wonderful. I've already planted the hanging baskets.

Knitting has not been neglected either. Aside from several orders for socks from TillmanMade (order yours quick, the price is about to go up), I've been working on my secret gift for the Rowan exchange and today I did a few rows of Petula because it's straight stocking stitch and I wanted to switch my brain off for a bit.

The greatest knitting challenge at the moment is the ongoing negotiation with my landlord's cats about whether they can chase the ball of wool. I'm sticking to my guns but also perfecting the art of occasionally nudging the catnip mouse with my foot by way of compromise.  So far it's working with the daft one, Jack, and the slightly more intelligent Carling is so horrified by me moving in knitting yarn is far from his thoughts. Horrified but not beyond curling up on my bed as he is at the moment. Looking very cute too but I wouldn't dare tell him, cute is beneath Carling!

Lastly, a quick thank you to all of you who have visited and recommended Web of Wool,  it's going well and I'm really enjoying it too.

Running out of time

Why aren't there more hours in each day? Why can't you store up sleep for the weeks you don't have time to go to bed? Both questions I'd like answers to please.

My 'To do' list is so long I haven't plucked up courage to write it down yet but somewhere near the top should be packing. I'm moving out of my flat. I have to be out by Monday next week and I've not started packing.  Too much junk, too little time.

Talking of time, I've just finished planning my Rowanette exchange gift. I must be way behind but I've put the timescale somewhere 'safe'. It's a secret exchange so I can't  be too specific but if you're out there and wondering where something is, believe me, I'd rather be knitting  your I-can't-say-what than packing things I never use into boxes so I can not use them somewhere else.

Stashing for Britain

I stash. I won't deny it. It's not just knitting yarn either, if it looks useful it has a place in my flat. However I have taken knitting yarn stashing to a new level this week. I noticed a while ago you can't get a great range of sock yarn in Britain. OK, you can order it from Germany and the service is very good but it's not quite the same as being able to fondle in your LYS is it? So I have decided to 'stash' yarn for the greater good. In other words I have imported Opal Sock yarn to sell on to yarn shops and to retail via the internet.

I have no intention of turning my blog into an advert , just wanted to share the feeling of opening not just a box of yarn but a huge great crateful of the stuff! Seventh Heaven! The only drawback is knowing I mustn't adopt any of it permanently, this is foster care for yarn!

If you would like to visit my now public stash, or know a LYS interested in Opal yarn, it can be found at www.webofwool.co.uk. If not I will keep you posted as to my progress in bringing sock knitting to a wider still audience.

Finally!
I finished my fuzzy feet and felted them and put nonslip paws on them.
