Correspondence
from Bermuda-Race report of Bermuda International
We arrived a couple of days before the Marathon to warm sunny weather, and once recovered from the 8 hour flight, settled into a few days of light jogging along the coast roads and tried to get as much rest as possible.
The marathon was part of a weekend of races, 1 mile, 10km and the finale, the marathon on Sunday. We enjoyed a few pre race events at the Hamilton Princess Hotel on the Saturday, including a talk by Karen Switzer, the first woman to break in to the Boston Marathon in 1967, a time when it was unheard of for women to run 26.2 miles as it was considered too dangerous! We also enjoyed some words of wisdom from two Ethiopian entrants, a woman who had come second in the Los Angeles Marathon in 2.20, and a guy who had a PB of 2.10.
Race day came with the usual nerves and fear of the unknown.
The weather did seem a little warmer and there was certainly a breeze in the
air. Down to

the following day we came across four of the lead elite athletes relaxing at
one of the local towns. Just had to have a photo as you can see! The Moroccan
