CRUEL BRITANNIA(Britannia takes the blame)
On his sleeve the rampant lion
Foretold that above all nations
Britannia would have the lion's
Share of guilt and mortal shame
Lowering the enemy flag all part
Of the victor's role in the game
Emblem swiftly hidden in his pack
His regiment press ahead leaving
Belsen far behind and out sight
But Never out of mind.
The flag? Sorry it can't be given
Back to its lawful owner's kin
It's been traded, payment in kind
To a house painter.
