Black Horse 2 - 3 Shirley Town Sunday
Shirley inflicted Black Horse's first league home defeat in over 2 years with a compehensive display at Studley Sports. Starting with a strong 3-5-2 formation, Shirley quickly dominated the critical midfield area with Boyce, Deeley and Luke Dugmore driving the team forward. Shirley missed some early chances with Luke Dugmore and Matt Reid spurning chances. Black Horse had a couple of chances, coming closest with a header against the post from a corner.
The break through came after 30 minutes from a Luke Dugmore free kick from 25 yds, that was bent over the wall in to the top right corner of the goal. Shirley built on their lead and dominiated the remainder of the half.
The second half curse struck again, when from a sloppy kick off, Black Horse pushed Shirley back into their own half. Shirley were pinned back for 10 minutes as Black Horse chased a equaliser. The goal eventually came when a cross from the right beat Williams at the near post and was volleyed home from 4 yds. The goal seemed to stoke the fire in Shirley and Moran hit the crossbar with a header from a corner. Luke Dugmore restored the lead on the hour, following good build-up play from Reid and Chapman.
Within minutes the lead had been doubled when Chapman beat the offside trap and coolly rounded the keeper to notce his 19th goal of the season - the premier divisions top goal scorer.
Black pulled a goal back with 10 minutes remaining to ensure a tense finale, but Shirley held on for a well deserved victory.
Team: Blunt, Moran, Farrell, Williams, Luke Dugmore (Strickley 82), Boyce (O'Connor 88), Deeley, Redden, Lee Dugmore (O'Sullivan 85), Chapman, Reid
Shirley Town Sunday 5 - 0 Bromsgrove General
Shirley progreesed to the quarter finals of the Terry Cup in a one sided affair at The Fortress. Bromsgrove were restrcited to one shot on target in the 90 minutes, in a match that could have ended up a cricket score had Shirley maintained their 1st half performance levels.
Chris Chapman scored twice and goals from Matt Reid and Luke Dugmore (a contender for goal of the season) put Shirley up by 4 at half time. But the second half yielded only a solitary goal - Chris Chapmans hatrick - as Shirley took their foot of the gas.
Team: Burrell, O'Connor (Stirckley 80), Moran, Farrell, Williams, R Dugmore , Luke Dugmore, Boyce, O'Sullivan, Lee Dugmore, Chapman, Reid
South Redditch 1 - 2 Shirley Town Sunday
Shirley ground out a well earned 3 points from their trip to Feckenham. Shirley dominated the game and limited South Redditch to only 3 clear chances in a one sided affair.
Chris Chapman opened the scoring on 25 minutes when after some neat one touch football allowed him to fire home from 10 yards. Shirley should have doubled their lead 10 minutes before the break when they were awarded a penalty after Luke Dugmore was fouled in the box. Scott Oliver scored from the spot only for the referee to demand a retake, after Boyce was adjudged to encroached. Olivers second effort was well saved to the keepers right.
South Redditch equalised within a minute of the re-start when a keeper blunder allowed the striker through unchallenged to tap in. But within 5 minutes Oliver scored from an acute angle to restore the goal advantage.
Team: Smith, O'Connor (Stirckley 80), O'Sullivan (Kelly 85), Williams, Farrell, R Dugmore , Luke Dugmore, Boyce, Lee Dugmore (Reid 75), Chapman, Oliver
Shirley Town Sunday 0 - 3 Church Hill
Shirley suffered only their 3 defeat at home in 3 years to champions in waiting Church Hill. Church Hill had the better chances in the first half, but only had a strike that hit the post to show for their chances.
Shirley picked up the pace in the second half, but didn't look like getting their noses in front in what was becoming a tense encounter in which the first goal was to be decisive. Church Hill took the lead in the 70th minute following a blocked shot that was quickly pounced on and fired across goal. With Shirley pushing on in search of an equaliser, 2 further goals were added to give the score line a comprehensive feel.
Team: Williams, Farrell, O'Connor, Lacy, R Dugmore , Lee Dugmore (Strickly 70), Boyce, O'Sullivan (kelly 80), Chapman (Reid 65), Moran, Redden
Wychbold RBL 3 - 6 Shirley Town Sunday
Shirley returned from a 4 week absence to end 2007 on a high with a gutty performance at Wychbold. Luke Dugmore got Shirley off to a flyer with a rocket finish just inside the box after 20 minutes. Sully grabbed his 4th goal of the season when the keeper failed to hold on a corner and tapped in from a yard. Shirley were motoring and playing some neat football, but dropped thier goal when O'Connor handled in the box to allow Wychbold a penatly from which they scored on the half time whistle.
Disaster struck in the second minute of the second half, when Rich Dugmore put in his own net following a Wychbold corner. Shirley responded within 5 minutes when from a Redden cross, Chris Moran tapped in after the keeper had been left flapping. Unbeliveably, Wychbold pulled the score level at 3-3 when a save from Williams rebounded off the shins of Farrell for Shirley's second own goal of the game!
Luke Dugmore restored order with a thunderous finish from a tight angle following a quick corner on the right. Chapman (his 6th in 4 games) and Paddy added further goals to wrap things up for Shirley.
Team: Williams, Farrell, O'Connor, Kelly, Lacy, R Dugmore , Luke Dugmore, O'Sullivan, Chapman, Moran, Redden
Bromsgrove General 4 - 1 Shirley Town Sunday
Team: Moran, Williams, Farrell (Gorman 80), O'Connor, Lacy, Ribera, R Dugmore , Luke Dugmore, Paddy (O'Sullivan 70), Lee Dugmore, Chapman
Shirley Town Sunday 4 - 1 South Redditch
Shirley got back to winnings ways with a comprehensive victory over South Redditch at the Fortress. After back to back away defeats, Shirley needed a confidence boosting win to get their league form back on track.
With a bare 11 to chose from, with Williams between the sticks and Boz forced back out of retirement to fill the central midfield role, it looked like Shirley could be tripped up by a full strength South Redditch outfit. But it was Shirley who dominated the match and took an early lead, when a smart passing move allowed Chapman to fire home after 20 minutes. The South Redditch keeper made a number of notible saves to keep the score to 1-0 at the break.
Shirley scored a second on sixty minutes when Luke Dugmore fired home after a scrable in the box. South Redditch replied immediately (and I mean immediately) when a shot from the kick off some how beat hapless Williams in goal, who was blinded by the powerful sun in his eyes (ha ha!!!). South Redditch then had their best spell of the game, but Shirley held them at bay and Chapman and Luke Dugmore added further spectacular goals to take the score to 4-1.
Team: Williams, Ribera, Farrell, O'Connor, O'Brien, R Dugmore , Luke Dugmore, Paddy, Reid, Oliver, Chapman
Austin S&S 3 - 2 (AET)Shirley Town Sunday
Shirley were without 6 first team regulars for the short trip to Austin for the Keith Turner quarter final, and team manager Marvin Gorman went between the sticks, having only 13 players to pick from.
Things started brightly for Shirley when Chapman opened the scoring midway through the first half, a well deserved lead following sustained pressure. A lovely chip over the advancing Leech followed some neat build up play. Austin pulled the scores level before half time direct from a free kick following a dubious foul given on the edge of the penalty area.
Shirley continued to dominate the game in the second half with some neat first touch football that was too hot for Austin to handle. Austin relied heavily on the long ball to pressure the Shirley back 3. No further goals were added in the second half, so the game went to extra time.
With a full bench to pick from Austin brought some fresh players on for extra time, and it paid off in the last minute of the first half when a cross from the left was headed home well. Austin added a third in the second period, when Nash broke through to seemingly secure the win for Austin.
But within a minute from the re-start Chapman scored a second to set up a grand stand finish. A close range effort from Lacy should have took the game to penalties, but a fantastic save from Leach (with his face) kept Shirley at bay.
Team: Gorman, Williams, Lacy, Farrell (Smith 90), R Dugmore , Boyce, Luke Dugmore, O'Sullivan (O'Connor 75), Reid, Oliver, Chapman
Church Hill 1 - 0 Shirley Town Sunday
Shirley Town suffered their third defeat of the season away at league leaders Church Hill. Shirley's preparation for the game was not ideal following celebrations late in to the night at Vaughanies 30th birthday bash.
Shirley started slowly, finding the conditions and small pitch difficult to adjust to. Church Hill had a number of chances early on, but it was Oliver who had the ball in the net first, but was hashly adjudged offside by the Church Hill linesman.
Church Hill gained the lead from a free kick just outside the Shirley box, with a drive to the foot of the far post beyond the efforts of Blunty. This acted as a wake up call to Shirley who started to play football, and they looked the more likely to score before half time, with Luke Dugmore and Ribera coming closest of all.
A 3-4-3 formation was adopted in the second half, with Chapman replacing the injured Rich Dugmore. Shirley started well, but were caught on the break after 50 mins. A last ditch block from Williams prevented Church Hill's Kendall from adding a second. Shirley continued to pile pressure on Church Hill with some neat football but never threatened the Church Hill goal with a shot on target. Shirley Town Sunday 4 - 2 Rednal Social (AET)
Shirley Town were on the wrong end of a giant killing shock at half time in their Terry Cup second round game against minnows Rednal Social. An early goal for the Division 2 outfit had Shirley rocked back on thier heels, and trailing 1-0 at the break.
Dispite constant pressure from the home side, Rednal maintained their lead until the hour mark, when a breakaway that started in Shirley penalty area resulted in a fine finish from Matt Reid, his 7th goal of the campaign. Shirley looked to have wrapped the game up when David Dainty (returning after a 3 week absence) scored after a melee in the Rednal penalty area with 15 minutes left.
But the plucky Division 2 outfit evened the scores within 3 minutes when a blundy by the Shirley keeper allowed anyone of 3 players to fire home unchallenged from 5 yards. Extra time would be needed to see who progressed to the 3rd round.
Extra time saw the introduction of Wayne Dugmore for his first game of the season for Shirley. A tired Rednal had little resistance in extra time and goals from David Dainty, his second, and Richard Dugmore saw Shirley through to the 3rd round of the Terry Cup.
Team: Blunt, Williams, O'Connor (Burrell 55), Farrell, R Dugmore, Luke Dugmore, Boyce (W Dugmore 90), O'Sullivan, Redden (Smith 80), Dainty, Reid
