NORTH STAFFORDSHIRE HISTORIANS' GUILD
An association of researchers,
writers, tutors and lecturers
in local and regional history
PURPOSES AND OPERATION
Purposes
Associates of the guild do historical research in a multitude of ways for family and local history purpose.
This is simply for their own satisfaction, or to inform local audiences about the richness of their region's history by lecturing writing or teaching.
Associates do not have to live in the area to participate, nor do they restrict themselves by defining the terms 'family', 'local' or 'history' in too narrow a sense.
The Way the Guild Works
Meetings take place as and when Associates feel that mutual benefit can be derived from critically debating a defined topic, or series of topics.
The Guild functions organically, with no formal membership or structure, save only that there is a chairman, currently Pamela Sambrook, and a Treasurer, Jim Sutton.
A small contribution is made by those attending each meeting to cover costs and an ex gratia payment to the speaker. This contribution is currently fixed at £4.00.
Attendance at meetings by those with local history interests is most welcome, but will be by invitation. The numbers at each meeting are kept to around 25 to promote the best circumstances for discussion. Programme planning and choice of speakers will be on an ad hoc basis and in the hands of those participating in meetings.
Newsletter
The programme is announced in News and Views with other items of information about the activities of Associates, short articles arising from discussions at meetings and book reviews.
