CVH3 (SI-2003) was one of the more unusual vehicles I saw on service, and it leaves Athlone bound for Galway on 25/7/01. |
B.E. SI32 (99-D-6036) leaves Athlone bound for Dublin on 25/7/01. These Scanias seemed well up to the task presented to them, although the ride quality could not really be described as 'soft'. |
SI-class Irizar bodied Scanias are the mainstay of the Dublin-Galway services, although other B.E. and private coach firms vehciles can apear on duplication. SI40 (99-D-51548) at Athlone, 25/7/01. |
Heavy duplication is the order of the day on Dublin-Galway services, and all hell seemed to break loose in the previously quiet Athlone Station car park when the coaches arrived there! SI70 (00-D-83731) collects passengers for Dublin on 25/7/01. Athlone's new Bus Station has since opened, removing the service coaches from the Car Park. |
Bus Eireann MH29 (99-D-58116) sits at the entrance to Athlone depot on 23/7/01. |
Bus Eireann Plaxton bodied B10M VP108 (01-D-8057) is painted for Eorolines work, and is seen at Ahtlone Station (oppposite the bus depot). |
An overall view of Athlone depot on 23/7/01, with school buses (mostly VS-class Volvos) laid up for the summer. |
A rather down-at-heel looking VS160 parked in the corner of the yard at Athlone depot. |
A look through the open door of VS160 revealed the front mounted engine minus its cover. |
 | DPC13 (00-D-89233), a Plaxton bodied Low Floor Dart, loads in Eyre Square. Commendably, all of Bus Eireann's Galway city services are worked by low floor vehicles. |
 | Citaro MC19 (00-D-98895) in Eyre Square, the focal point for city services. |
 | Similar MC20 (00-D-98898) on route 2, which the Citaros often work. |
 | Local independant City Direct run two half-hourly and one hourly city services using a mix of vehicles, inlcuding this Mercedes 96-G-7209. Other vehicles used include Dennis Darts. |
 | Another independant is Citylink, who run express coahces along the heavily trafficed Galway-Athlone-Dublin route, and run to Dublin airport. Here is tidy Van Hool T9 bodied DAF 01-G-2584 outside the Galway tourist office. |
 | Another indpendant on this corridor is Bus Nestor, whose well turned out Jonkheere bodied Mercedes 92-G-5753 waits behind the Citylink vehicle at the tourist office. |
 | Also local are O'Lally's tours, who run this Leyland Titan half-cab ZV 1466 on a tour of Galway. |
