Meet Boris | Meet Gouts | Meet Penfold |

Hullo and welcome to our website!

Penfold and Gouts (née Marmalade) were born in February 2001 and came to live with the humans in April 2001. They were very shy to begin with, well, they were still only baby gerbils, but soon settled in, made themselves at home and were very happy.

Unfortunately after an illness, Penfold passed away in June 2003. he was just over 2 years old. Boris joined the family in August 2003 to keep Goutie company. Goutie and Boris got along well, for the first few months but one day came to blows over tube access rights and had to be separated. Both seemed more than satisfied with this arrangement and lived happily with a split cage set up sharing 2 cages and having one each to themselves as well.

Goutie reached the grand old age of 3 and 1/2 and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his humans leaving young Boris to inherit the entire 6 cages.

Boris seemed a little perplexed to begin without his old companion around but has settled into his new role as prime pet and comes out at least once a day to run free with his humans.

Boris

I am the newest addition to the gerbil clan in Swindon, born in June 2003. My name is Boris and I am a Siamese gerbil, in my colouring that is.

I'm light silvery-grey with darker tail and paws and ruby eyes. I was just a mere youngster compared with Gouts who was two and a half years my senior and twice the size of me although I worked hard to remedy that!

Boris' finest hour...

I am adept at cage escapology and stair-climbing. I like to wake my humans up by scamping upstairs to see them when they stay in bed for too long at weekends! Once I zoomed up the girl human's trouser leg making her put her food plate down on the floor. I then grabbed a chip from the plate and made off with it! Hee hee! I love chips!...

...and living to tell the tale!

Gouts

I was born in February 2001. When Penfold and I first arrived at the humans' house they didn't know what to call us. The girl human thought that Marmalade was a good name for me, on account of my cinnamon colouring although my name ws quickly shortened to 'Goutie'. I am extremely inquisitive and like eating and escaping from my cage!

I am a Mongolian gerbil and I am 'Argente Golden' colour. Now, more often or not, I get called 'Gouts', 'Goutie' or 'Goutim' or 'Gunther' on account of my (mistakenly) being thought an Agouti you see? Apparently it makes sense to the humans at any rate! My distinguishing features are a white belly, ruby-red eyes and a kink in my tail!

I am extremely sociable and like jumping onto the humans' hands, heads, shoulders etc. I also like just hanging around on the top of my cage whilst the humans are around, hoping that they'll pop a pumpkin seed my way now and again! I always get up when the human have their breakfast to keep them company, again, you never know when a pumpkin or sunflower seed might come your way!

Gouts' finest hour...

Was running under the duvet and tickling the girl human's legs - that was funny! Also chewing through the lamp cable, right down to the wire, whilst it was plugged in to the mains...

...and living to tell the tale!

Penfold

I was also born in February 2001 and am Gouts' brother. My name, Penfold, just sort of suited me and yes, I am named after Penfold from Dangermouse, the children's TV show from the 80's, even though I believe he was actually a hamster! I am 'Burmese Colourpoint' colour, dark silvery-grey with dark points on my feet, nose and a darker tail.

I am sociable, like my brother, and I can be just as naughty! I am often braver than Gouts and will be the first to try something new such as negotiating a new tube arrangement although Gouts sussed out climbing out of the cage first! I have a very soft underbelly and I liked being stroked whilst I eat sunflower seeds from your hand.

Lurking is a speciality of mine. I enjoy a good lurk in my cage, preferably from the darkness of a tube or cardboard box from where I will watch what the humans are up to. At first I think it unnerved them a little but they don't seem to mind now as I'm just keeping an eye on what they are up to - they are my pets after all!

Penfold's finest hour...

Was the time when I escaped from the cage and was finally found hours later lurking under the shower unit! Oh, and conducting research into 'cage diving', leaping three foot from the top of my cage to the floor...

...and living to tell the tale!
