Alternative Devon is an ambitous site with the stated aim of creating a 24-hour webcast station promoting the local talent of the Devon music scene. At the moment a successful broadcast test has been carried out as part of the development process. They also have a nice mixture of gig news and band links although the site lives and dies by the measure of the webcast project. They seem a little behind the original schedule but the idea itself remains a sound one and hopefully punters in Plymouth and Devon will realise the value of this project and support the site by visiting and donating. Plymouth Music stated aim is to become the place for the local music scene in Plymouth. The intent to provide comprehensive coverage is clearly there with a easily navigable and well designed site. Not every aspect is as full fleshed out as they would like. For example the featured bands section is empty but then again they list over 80 local bands most with profiles and music style and the ambition is clear to see. No room for traditional Plymouth pessimism here. The people behind this site are clearly energised by the local music scene and the committment shines through. These sites work best when a wide range of people feel able to contibute and help it grow and with a very active forum this seems to be the case. Definitely worth visiting on a regular basis for news, views and much more. Jeff Baxter 18/08/03
Green Events is a fantastically comprehensive online version of the newsletter which is widely distributed in south Devon area. The main focus is green related events with up to date news and listings on whats happening in south Devon and further afield. There are also many links to other related websites and this is really green central for anyone looking to get involved in the environmental movement or simply to live a more ethical life. Overall the site is well designed, well maintained and benefits from a genuine committment from the people running it. Jeff Baxter 18/08/03
