Polegate Rambling Club |
![]() |
Polegate Rambling Club is located on the edge of the South Downs just north of Eastbourne, East Sussex. It was founded in 1969 under the title of Polegate Field Paths Preservation Society, with the aim of protecting local rights of way for walking. The subscription then was 2/6d (12.5p). The first of the short fortnightly rambles was a woodland walk and leaders were known rather formally by initials and surnames. Normally two rambles are arranged for Thursdays, a morning walk of 4 to 6 miles and a longer walk of 8 to 11 miles. |
Longer Walks |
Longer walks take place on Thursdays. Walkers normally meet at 9.30a.m. in the public car park adjacent to Wannock Road recreation ground, Polegate. They usually take packed lunches on these walks as they are not completed until mid to late afternoon. Sometimes however the lunchtime stop is not far from a public house so that walkers can purchase a drink if they wish |
Short Walks |
These walks also take place on Thursdays. Walkers normally meet at 9.30p.m. in the public car park adjacent to Wannock Recreation Ground. The walks usually finish at lunchtime when some walkers go home and others stay out to buy a 'pub' lunch. |
