2006 CD Poll
Compared to those of many lesser known, lesser successful acts, the New Seekers' catalogue has had a poor showing in the CD stakes, with very little but the occasional hit compilation reaching the market and only one original LP reappearing in CD form. There is still a lot of New Seekers material which has not yet been released to CD.
Voters were asked to choose up to 20 New Seekers tracks which hadn't been been released on to CD by 31st July.
The fans also opened up discussion to find out what the fans really want - to see all the original material released on CD? Better planned compilations? More concentration on the very early or later releases than the 'classic lineup'? Something from the current lineup?
Findings
Undoubtedly, the overriding preference is for all the New Seekers albums to be released to CD with some fans asking for the inclusion of bonus tracks of previously unreleased material or tracks which have only appeared on singles in the past (not forgetting the tracks recorded in German and Japanese).
Failing this, the fans would still like to see everything from the Philips/Polydor years (1969-74 and particularly 70-73) closely followed by the CBS years (particularly 76-78), which has so far not been transferred on to CD, released on CD without too many more repeats of the hit singles.
The New Seekers Live at the Royal Albert Hall is the album most fans would want to see released to CD with all the tracks included on the double album and preferably with tracks originally left off such as Streets of London.
The second favourite album for release is Together Again with other people also requesting Peter, Paul and Marty and the Farewell Album.
It has been suggested that the next CD should be dedicated to Peter Doyle, but perhaps it should be mentioned that he was included along with other New Seekers in the dedication for Songbook.
The quality of some of the material available on CD so far is questionable, on certain tracks vinyl type clicks and scratches are audible. If people are expected to pay for commercial recordings they have a right to expect a better sound quality than they will achieve by copying their own LPs to CD at home!
Lastly, one contributor is quite happy to go on buying endless repetitive compilations on the grounds that you can never have enough New Seeker CDs.....
