Visit http://www.psranawat.org Dr. Pushpendra Singh Ranawat was born at Gogunda village (N 24° 46’: E 073° 32'), Udaipur district, Rajasthan, on July 06, 1947. He was brought up and received education in Udaipur. He had his schooling at the newly opened St. Paul's Higher Secondary School Udaipur, from where he did his Higher Secondary in 1962. He graduated in science (B. Sc. TDC) in 1965 from the Maharana Bhopal College affiliated to the newly established Udaipur University. He obtained his master's degree (M. Sc., Geology) from the Rajasthan University Department of Geology, Udaipur in 1967 followed by M. Sc. Tech. (Applied Geology) degree in 1968, obtaining +75% marks and standing first in the order of merit. Dr. P. S. Ranawat commenced his research work in the year 1969 as a CSIR Junior Research Fellow and worked for Ph.D. thesis on the Fluorspar Deposits of Rajasthan at the University Department of Geology, Udaipur. He joined the faculty in the same institution in the year 1971. He was promoted as Associate Professor in the year 1987 and Professor in May 2001. He is member of the Board of Management (BoM) of M. L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur for the term 2001-2003.; and Dean Students’ Welfare for two years w.e.f 01.08.2002. Chairman University Sports Board since September 2003. He is also a Member, for the term 2002-2003, of the Subject Committee on Earth and Atmosphere Sciences of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi for its Swarnajayanti Fellowship Scheme, that awards Fellowships & Research Grants to young scientists in the age group of 30-40 years. Postgraduate teaching and field training of M. Sc. Tech (Applied Geology) students were the main professional responsibilities of these posts. Realizing the importance of host rock petrologic studies of the mineral deposits, the Dr. Ranawat started research work on this aspect as Principal Investigator of research projects sponsored by UGC & the state DST. Guiding of Ph.D. theses and M. Sc. Technical reports also gave thrust to the understanding of the mineral resources of Rajasthan. Dr. Ranawat set up one of the first Fluid Inclusion Laboratories in India;
its unreserved facility was extended to several researchers from a number of
institutions from across the country. Dr. Ranawat updated the Ore Geology lab
and also set up the Computer and Internet facilities in the Department.
Post-doctoral research experience was gained during the INSA-USSR Academy of
Sciences Collaborative Program- 1984/85 at Institutes in Moscow viz.
GEOCHI, IGEM, Moscow State University, and CSIR-CNRS Collaborative
Program at Orleans, France 1996 as well as interaction with earth
scientists at Hamilton. Auckland & Rotorua during International
Volcanological Congress, 1986,New Zealand; 28th
International Geological Congress, 1989, Washington D. C. USA;
Equipment training at the LOGITECH Works, Glasgow, UK, 1991; 29th International Geological
Congress, 1992,Kyoto, Japan. Help and guidance was also provided to a
number of university and state government departments in setting up of ore
petrology and fluid inclusion laboratories. Likewise, help & guidance was
also provided to day-to-day problems of mine owners and mineral entrepreneurs
of Udaipur area. In the teaching side, Dr. Ranawat helped update the syllabus
of the postgraduate classes of the University Department of Geology Udaipur.
He set up an Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) in the Department
in 1998 with the support of National Science & Technology
Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) of Department of Science
& Technology, Government of India. Through the EDC several entrepreneurship
promotional activities have been organized, chief amongst them have been the
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EAC), Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP), Technology Based Entrepreneurship Development Program (TEDP), Skill Development Training Program (STDP) etc .In the Co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities, Dr. Ranawat, in different capacities, helped organize seminars,
etc. in the Department, starting with the trend-setting Silver Jubilee
Seminar & Function of the Department in November 1975 and up to the 12th
Indian Geological Congress in February 2000 followed by the Golden Jubilee
Seminar & Function in November 2000.
