Low Friction Coatings

MoST ™

MoST ™ is a "state of the art" PVD low friction coating developed at Teer Coatings Ltd and licensed world-wide which offers high resistance to adhesive and abrasive wear and a load bearing limit in excess of 3GPa. In addition MoST ™ also offers an ultra low coefficient of friction (0.01 - 0.06), much lower than that of Teflon™ or graphite with a hardness of 1500-2000 Hv and an extremely low specific wear rate, 4x10-17m^3/Nm.

The amazing combination of high hardness, low friction and high wear resistance makes MoST ™ ideal for the metal forming industry eliminating the need for spray lubricants and post forming operations. MoST ™ also offers increased galling resistance, substantially reducing downtime, while MoST ™ coated tools produce parts with a superior finish. MoST ™ is recommended for dry forming carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, and copper alloys. MoST ™ has also shown outstanding results in dry machining applications when used in conjunction with a hard base layer such as TiN.

Graphit-iC ™

Graphit-iC ™ is a non-hydrogenated diamond like carbon (DLC) PVD low friction coating capable of sustaining contact pressures >3 GPa developed at Teer Coatings Ltd. and licensed world-wide. Graphit-iC ™ is a dark electrically conductive coating with a graphitic microcrystalline structure which exhibits medium hardness, low friction, high wear resistance and excellent corrosion resistance. The vast majority of commercially available DLC coatings are hydrogenated and therefore tend to perform poorly in water (hydrogen bonding occurs between the oxygen in the water and the hydrogen in the DLC), Graphit-iC ™ on the other hand retains its properties in high humidity and even under water. Graphit-iC ™ is used extensively within the automotive industry in fuel injection systems and sliding components.
