Welcome to Radio Branwen 87.7 FM
Radio
Branwen is the new radio station for Coleg Harlech WEA (N) based in Harlech
Gwynedd North Wales.
On Friday 7 December 2001, it was announced that ELWa had accepted the bid for
Radio Branwen.
The Station was launched on 1st March 2002, St. Davids Day.
WHO
RUNS THE STATION?
The persons responsible for the running of the station are the two people who
first thought of a radio station for Coleg Harlech, who have worked for the last
three years to push their idea forward and who have devised the proposal for the
radio station, namely: Trevor Andrews and Jenny Zobel.
Trevor and Jenny are the creators of the successful radio modules in the
Performing Arts Department, which they have been teaching for the past 6 years.
The initial module called ‘Radio!’ has now expanded into 2 other modules for
more advanced students: ‘Keeping The Rhythm’ and ‘Live Radio Project’
Trevor teaches the technical side and provides technical support in the studio,
and Jenny teaches the theoretical media side as well as script-writing and a
whole range of radio broadcasting skills. They have been working together in the
studio for years and form a strong, efficient team. They have long shared a
vision of what benefits a real radio station could bring to Coleg Harlech
students and to the Harlech community. They are in the best position to bring
about this vision and make it real, now that they have been given the funding
and the go-ahead to establish Radio Branwen.
Trevor and Jenny understand and appreciate the crucial role played by the
Principal, Annie Williams, the Director of Studies (Residential), Dave
Wiltshire, the External Funding officer, Janet Knight as well as the
Entrepreneurial Champion, Helen Spilsbury, who has put the bid forward and will
see to the successful development of the project. They are especially keen to
maintain a close and creative relationship with them, throughout the running of
the project.
