The nearby picturesque village of Newnham is steeped in history, connected to the river from where oak and timber was shipped out from the forest and from where the spectacular Severn Bore can be witnessed at certain times of the year. Rail enthusiasts should visit Lydney, home of the Dean Forest Railway and renowned model making shop.
