FULLY COMP OR THIRD PARTY CAR INSRANCE?

The big question when you embark on your yearly search for a cheap car insrance quote - fully comprehensive or third party cover. Now you could have third party only cover or include fire & theft with it also. But would this be a good move compared with having cover for all eventualities? Well it would certainly be cheaper, though it could cost you more in the long run if, say, you had an accident which WAS your fault. As well as the money lost in repairs (if its not a right off) to your own car, you may have to pay legal costs if there were to be a claim against you for injuries. This is not always covered in third party policies, especially the cheaper ones. All pretty daunting, but there are also advantages to having third party insrance.

THIRD PARTY CAR INSRANCE

So what is third party cover? Well, what it says on the tin really. If you are involved in an accident which is your fault, then your insurance company is liable to pay for the damage of the vehicles of the other party or parties involved. This will sometimes include any legal cost which are incurred such as injury claims, though not always. You must always check exactly what you are paying for. Cover will sometimes also include a payout to you if your car is stolen or damaged by fire. You generally would consider a third party policy if you had a car of low value. An expensive car you must always, always, always take out a fully comprehensive policy. What if you have a mid range value car? The majority of people do. My advice is to take out a fully comp policy, but shop around.

FULLY COMPREHENSIVE CAR INSRANCE

So what is fully comprehensive cover? Well, again, exactly what it says really. Well, to a point anyway. Fully comprehensive should cover you for all eventualities, but not all policies are the same. Some have large excesses, where you pay the first however much of any liabilities. Some include break down cover or allow you to drive any vehicle. The point is most fully comp policies differ greatly. Now this can be used to your advantage when looking for a cheaper quote. Hand pick which components you want in your policy and if you want any excess (generally the more excess you pay the cheaper the quote). Then tell the insrance companies exactly what you want in your cover. Shop around to as many companies as possible , then go for the cheapest. That way you'll have exactly what you want for the best possible price. Another tip is to ask for a discount if you lump it in with another policy, such as a home insrance or life insrance policy.

I hope this car insrance article has been interesting and informative for you.
