The club started under the name of Salford Swimfit in 1986. The intention of the new club was to form a meeting place for swimmers of all abilities. From the start the pool has been split in roughly even halves with one section being used for lane swimming with no set format (swimmers here range from people who consider 20 lengths to be a challenging workout to people who will swim pretty well continuously for the whole session). The other section of the pool is used to train to a predetermined set and different lanes will concentrate on distance or shorter distances. We first registered as a club with the ASA in 1997 and at that time changed our name to Salford Masters Swimfit and we swim under that name at various competitions. Members of the club are often members of other clubs and swim for either club dependent on the competition. We hope that swimmers should see us as a useful vehicle for training rather than a club that demands "first claim" status and we have a happy mix of swimmers who compete at outdoor distance swimming, national masters competitions and triathlons. We feel we can all benefit from swimming together and we try to attend two meets per year where we stay one night and although we try our best in the pool the main intention is to enjoy a good social occasion.Swimmers of all abilities are welcome with "drop ins" from swimmers wanting to sample our system or just based locally for a while are very welcome.
