Glasgow's Govan Shipyard

This view taken from the tower of Glasgow University looks west and south across the River Clyde to Govan shipyard, now owned by BAe Systems. You can just make out the shape of a large naval vessel currently under construction. Govan shipyard's history is one of struggle and survival and it awaits news of an MOD ferry order to help secure it's future. Regrettably the European rules governing tenders and contracts for orders threatens to upset any political desires to send the work to Govan. From this website comes heartfelt good wishes to the yard and I hope it wins through.

To the right are the granaries. Sadly these are no longer in use and the oldest buildings to the left are to be demolished soon. The fate of the sixties built granary is as yet uncertain.
