SEASoN

South East Alternative Science Network

Young SEASoN scientists, Summer 2002, St Leonards on SeaSEASoN is a group of people united in the belief that science is something that we can all do, and is not just limited to the confines of laboratories and institutions. Science is about the process of looking at the world and asking questions. It's about taking responsibility for what one does with knowledge, and about recognising the validity of different ways of understanding.

SEASoN organises hands-on science activities mainly, but not exclusively, for children in Kent and East Sussex. We have strong links to the local home education community. Areas of particular interest to us are renewable energy, environmental issues and ethics/responsibility in science.

SEASoN was formed in December 2001, initially as a group of people keen on the idea of staging an event of some sort for the 2002 National Science Week. We formally adopted a constitution in November 2002. SEASoN comprises members of Wealden Home Educators Network, Hastings Home Education Development and Empowerment (HEDGE),  Kent High Weald Project, and Scientists for Global Responsibility, amongst others.

UPCOMING EVENTS

SEASoN is aiming to apply for funds from the Lottery “Awards for All” scheme in order to run more activities and get additional equipment, including a wind turbine. Watch this space for updates.

RECENT NEWS

SEASoN took part in a environmental consultation event organised by the Kent High Weald Project at Goudhurst and Kilndown Primary School in Kent on 17 March 2005, giving children the chance to pedal-power a TV, sound-system and gameboy.

SEASoN ran pedal-powered electronic games, including the second ever outing for “pedal-powered pong” (the cheesy 1970s tennis TV game) at the Mad March Fayre on Hastings Pier, 12 March 2005.

SEASoN had a very successful day running our pedal-powered sound system and electronic games at the Brighton Science Festival, Saturday February 25th 2005, at City College, Pelham St, The Laines, Brighton.
