Nolberto Solano - Nobby
Nolberto Solano was one of the few good players brought to the club by Kenny Dalglish. Nobby joined us for £2.5 million from Boca Juniors in 1989, Maradona once called him the Nobby did very little wrong while at the club, his only mistake, if you could call it that, was to want to play for his country. I don't know why Sir Bobby had such a big problem with that considering Bobby was once manager of England. nolberto solano
Nobby is currently playing for Villa, he's welcome back any time, an honourary Geordie.

This site is about scandal and Nobby was involved in a couple of things while at the club, one was his passport.

Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano has pleaded his innocence amid claims that he could be charged in connection with a passport scandal within days. Reports suggest that he will be the first player in England to be hit after a long-ranging investigation. But the South American insisted that he had done nothing wrong. "I know nothing about it," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, everything is in order." Newcastle were not commenting on the matter as Bobby Robson and his players prepared to board their flight to France for their Intertoto Cup final against Troyes, but the 68-year-old manager was furious that the matter had raised its head yet again. Solano has been one of the men at the centre of speculation that the Immigration Services would act for several months now, along with Arsenal's Lithuanian striker Tomas Danilevicius, who was also named in this morning's report. Solano arrived in the country as Kenny Dalglish's final signing after being granted an EC work permit, qualifying comfortably by way of his regular appearances for the Peruvian national side. The permit was not renewed after he was issued with a Greek passport which he claimed through his grandmother.

Uefa has turned down a complaint about Newcastle fielding Nolberto Solano in the Intertoto Cup final. French side Troyes lodged an official protest after Newcastle fielded the Peruvian against them in the first leg of the final last Tuesday. Solano is a central figure in a probe into false passport allegations and the French side argued he should not have been eligible to face them. But a Uefa spokesman said: "Uefa have rejected the complaint from Troyes regarding Nolberto Solano. "The player is Peruvian-registered, he has got a license from the national association and there was never any problem at all." Solano was issued with a Greek passport two years after arriving in Britain with a valid work permit. He has always protested his innocence against charges that he had a false passport. Newcastle have also insisted that there is no problem and have recently re-registered Solano as a non-EC player. Newcastle and Troyes played out an acrimonious goalless draw in France on Tuesday. The Magpies complained about the treatment of their supporters during the tie.

November 2001
Nobby Solano and Keiron Dyer were spread across the front pages of the Evening Chronicle after it was revealed that they were involved in an incident in which a woman broke her arm after being dragged out of Dyer's car by two other women. The incident occurred when Dyer and Solano picked up 22 year old Rhayner Gibbs and her friend in Bambras in the Bigg Market after the win again Liverpool on Sunday night. They drove with them to the Black Bull pub where they had a few drinks, Solano left. Another two girls who had previously been with Dyer and Solano in Bambras then appeared and apparently dragged the Rhayner from Dyer's car as they wanted to get in. A fight started between the screaming females with Rhayner ending up with a broken arm. Dyer had allededly swore at them and told them all to get out of his car. The two fight winners then jumped into Dyers car and left Rhayner with a broken arm and her friend who was throwing up alone in the city centre.
