| Sir Bobby took over as Newcastle United manager from Ruud Gullit when it seemed the club was heading for the old second division. Sir Bobby stabalized the club then quickly took the club back towards the top of the premiership. He let nobody down, it's a pity that the Chairman and players didn't do the same for him. Sir Bobby was responsible for our best ever showing in the European Champions League and a return of the feel good factor. | ![]() |

2002 Queen's Birthday Honours List, Bobby Robson becomes Sir Bobby Robson.
In June 2002 Bobby was knighted for his services to football, he became Sir Bobby Robson. Sir Bobby Robson Inducted into Soccer Hall of Fame. In December 2003 Sir Bobby was inducted into English football's Hall of Fame. Sir Bobby joined the likes of Sir Matt Busby, Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson, Bob Paisley, Sir Alf Ramsey, Bill Shankly (no sign of Souness). 18th March 2004, Sir Bobby Mentioned in House of Commons. The club statement read: "After a disappointing start to the Premier League season, the directors of Newcastle United have informed Sir Bobby Robson that they have decided he is to be replaced as team manager." "The directors of Newcastle wish to place on record their thanks for the way in which Sir Bobby has worked tirelessly over the past five years to try to bring success to the club." "There is no hesitation by the club in recording its sincere appreciation for the way in which Sir Bobby has handled team affairs during that five-year spell, which has seen a significant turnaround in the club's fortunes. "The club continues to have the greatest respect and admiration for Sir Bobby and his lifelong achievements both at home, abroad, and particularly at the club he has supported since a boy, his beloved Newcastle." To this day Sir Bobby is still waiting for the compensation due to him, 9 months since he was sacked. Sir Bobby said: "I am massively disappointed not to be able to finish the job I came here to do. I have immensely enjoyed my time here as manager and I wish the club all the best of success in the future. At the present moment I have absolutely nothing to say except to thank the Geordie fans for their tremendous enthusiasm, loyalty and support." |
