Timaru Southern 32  - 4 September 2005
TIMARU club web site   |    See UK SLOTRACER report

The meeting was the second day of a full weekend’s racing at Timaru.  Saturday had seen a round of the AB Slotsport Clubman series for TSRF’s, Falcon and ‘C’ can F.1’s.

No-one could really go short of spares at the meeting with AB Slotsport, SCD and Won-O-Won all present with their huge ranges of parts on offer.

 Falcons

A slight mix-up allowed Andy Brown-Searle to run in this class although he isn’t eligible.  Sorry Andy!  His points have been discounted and those below (11-14th) moved up a place (to 10-13th).

Graham Sampson won the ‘A’ final pretty convincingly from Andy Bishop who was just 0.01 in front of Stan Kirk.  David Farrow prevented a clean sweep for home drivers in the top final.

John Ovens won the ‘B’ final and has taken over the series lead by 4 points from ‘C’ final winner Franz Barillaro who is now just one point in front of David Farrow.  The championship is nicely placed for a three way battle to the wire.

 Super Production

Another five drivers joined this year’s series with 27 on the day and 90 for the year so far.

Two of the ‘newcomers’ took the top two spots in qualifying but James Cleave beat them all in the final.  Top qualifier Dave Harvey was second and second qualifier Alan Callaghan third.  Nick Thrower trailed in fourth after a very good qualifying performance.

Graham Sampson took another win in the ‘B’ final from series leader Ian Barker.  Two more ‘newcomers’, Graeme Stephenson and Neal Callaghan completed this race.

The ‘C’ final was all Area 6 with Ian Fisher winning a close but very clean dice with Stan Alton, then Mick Kerr and Paul Harwood.

Winners in the other finals were Vince Lee, Phil Hemsley, Franz Barillaro and Peter Dunne.

In the championship, James, with only 5 scores, is now only 27 points behind leader Ian Barker, so one more reasonable score should clinch it for James.  Interestingly, although all present, no-one else in the top 6 improved their best 6 scores at Timaru.

John Ovens has extended his Grade C lead but is not unbeatable.

LM 32 G12 Team Race

There were 13 teams, racing 10 minutes per lane.  Paul Harwood ‘rested’ his recent partner Mike Ovens, instead teaming up with Dave Harvey and blagging Dave’s car into the bargain.  They made no mistakes and were quick throughout winning by 15 laps.  Series leaders Impunity took a safe 2nd place by 9 laps from welcome returnees Yer Maun for whom Alan Callaghan set fastest single run.

LSCC had to stop to tighten a slipping gear and were just 0.37 lap further back.  They could have been second otherwise.  This looks to have set up a close end to the season between Impunity and LSCC.

Other positions are in the table.  UK Slot Racer team had a troubled start and John P left John O on his own for the remainder!  The car got changed, and John O did 3 runs, both of which infringe the regs!  As a result they have been dropped one place to last for the day.  Better luck next time we all hope!

I hope to see as many as possible at Dowty.

Ian Fisher
