| Going Public |

| Unlike some other counties, Derbyshire is well served by public transport and the more people use it the better it should become. There are many advantages to using public transport. Apart from environmental considerations, using buses and trains enables the walker to do linear walks. With a wayfarer ticket (which I think is excellent value for money - click on 'wayfarer ticket' link above, then Fares, tickets & pass... - Rover tickets for current prices ) you can use several different buses/routes or even catch the train without digging into your pocket every time you board. Why not take the opportunity to appreciate the scenery while you travel. Let somebody else handle the hairpin bends and the traffic while you relax. And when you arrive at the pub at the end of your walk you do not even have to worry about breath tests! | |

Like any successful outing the secret is in the planning. It's a good idea to carry your timetables with you and please make sure you understand the symbols and read the small print. Leave plenty of time to complete your walk and allow for short stops along the way. If in doubt Derbyshire has a number of Youth Hostels and many B&B's but to be on the safe side it's a good idea to book in advance during the usual busy spells and for Saturday nights. |
