COME ON U K'S
It's been asked hundreds of times - what or who are Table-One?
The Table-One.com will now explain exactly what who they are............
When Kingsmeadow first opened back in 1989 it brought along hundreds of
new faces. The team also started life at Kingsmeadow with a succesful
period. Players such as Richard Parkin, Micky Preston, Martin Nelmes,
Darren Bird, Dave Harlow, Dave Kempton, Steve Conroy and Frankie Vines
started to draw decent sized crowd to the new stadium.
Everything was
new, including a spacious clubhouse with expensive seating, pool-tables, and a long bar.
Matchdays saw the clubhouse nearly full by 1330!!!
Groups of new fans sat side by side with some of the more establised faces
at the huge round tables, and within a few months were getting to know each other, forging new friendships.
During the 91-92 season, a certain table based in the middle of the clubhouse saw friendship strike up between olser and newer fans from all walks of life.
Nothing extraordinary took place that season except that the fans promised to meet up for the forthcoming season.
1992/93 saw the introduction of a permament supporter's coach which helped more fans get together and share a love in the name of Kingstonian FC.
A certain group of fans stuck together on a coach trip to Wivenhoe on Saturday 5th September 1992, and unbeknown to anyone the foundations of Table-One were well under way.
Around a dozen lads would enjoy drinking on the coach trips - the now infamous KVG (Kingstonian Vodka Gang) - as well as enjoying the nightlife that the K's clubhouse offered in those days, and always at the same table.
Table-One was Born, although no specific name was yet in place.
Exactly how the name came into being is open to debate but the best remembered is a director who strolling past the table one day casually said 'Hello there Table-One' and taht was it from this day forth the group that sat on that table became known as 'the lads on Table-One'(Even if the table has since changed position on several occasions).
The Growth of Table 1
By season 1993/4 expansion was well under way and Table-One had grown into about two dozen supporters, and at this time, the seating changed in the clubhouse and the Table assumed a new position in the bottom left hand corner of the bar, where the old dart-board used to be, now a fruit machine!
These were the free and easy days of Table-One. The rear of the coach was always full of good lads, and alcohol/wacky-backy was freely available! K's were only a moderate to poor side in those days, but what the hell, everyone was out to have a good day out at the football.
A warm welcome always awaited our return to the clubhouse.
Table-One was now well established.
By 1994/5 membership had grown considerable. Comradeship was second to none, and if your face fitted then you were in! Supporters from senior clubs disenchanted at the game also arrived at the club, and some were soon absorbed into Table-One, hence the diversity of 2nd teams followed by members - Chelsea (several), Rangers (several), QPR, Wimbeldon, West Ham, Celtic, Notts Forest, Dundee, Crystal Palace, Bognor Regis, Southampton, Sunderland!!)
The end of the season saw the introduction of the Kool For K's fanzine which gave us a platfrom to air our views. Thankfully the fanzine went from strength to strength, and today is still regarded as a good quality publication.
The 1996/7 season was disappointing for the team and fans alike. At least Table-One had the enjoyment of weekend stays at certain pre-season friendlies.
Word soon spread that a even better time was to be had if on a Table-One weekend bender (the forerunner of the Sheds-Tour). We soon attracted several new faces.
By the time K's had hit the dizzy heights and won promotion to the Conference, the membership of Table-One was still high despite some old faces disappearing or moving away - but they don't half get a welcome if they pop up for the odd game.
Table-One by now was situated on the left hand side of the doors as you entered the club-house. Our fanzine was still flourshing, and in order to keep in the Table-One spirit of making a day of the football most members switched to using British Rail for their jaunts around the country.
It also gave us a chance to meet up with various supporters of other clubs, while at the same time spreading the word about Kingstonian FC. Station-bars around the country were astonished to find Red & White hooped fans so commited to the cause!
We like to think of Table-One as a breed apart.
Yes we can be tough, but fair, we're hardened drinkers, and if you upset a Table-One member then you run the risk of upsetting us all.
There is NO self-styled 'leader'. Most decisions are made by a show of hands. Females were excepted into the group at the beginning of 1998.
Table-One members are visible in places like Glasgow, Southampton, West-Midlands, and particularly on the Sussex coast. Many have nicknames from Mr. Mog to Yorkey, and from Monty to Ceefax.
As you can see Table-One reach the parts NO other non-league group can!
The success of the past two seasons has caused the membership of Table-One to reach epidemic propotions. We were the largest individual purchaser of tickets for the Trophy final 2000 with 97 tickets ordered for members, with a similiar figure for the previous year.
We are the probably the largest and most powerful independent body within non-league cirlces.
The Future
It was decided that for the millenium Table-One was going to undertake a series of measures, with the ultimate aim of ensuring as many people as possible get to hear of Table-One and through that Kingstonian FC.
The first major project was the introduction of the Table 1 Travel Service (T1TS)
So far this service id doing well and establishing itself, without an loss, as an alternative to the supporters club coach.
Over the past two seasons Table-One has also launched a range of Lapel Badges which have been a huge success and more are coming soon!
Plans are also afoot to widen this merchandise range with Polo Shirts and other top-secret projects.
Also currently doing the national tour is the HUGE Kingstonian FC - Table-One banner, which you will be able to say at every match.
The other major piece in the developemt of Table-One is this web-site which will continue the Table's drive for excellence.
At present Table-One has around fifty recognised members, as well as dozens of former members and associates who make odd games. It regularly sponsors several players - FIVE during 2000/1 season - not mentioning the small fortune behind the bar and club shop.
A warm welcome awaits the right person at Table-One
