Sketch: |
| A man sells his wife and daughter for a
claim to a gold mine. Twenty years later, they show up in
the settlement he has created from scratch and where he
serves as mayor/sheriff. Meanwhile, a railroad engineer
is exploring routes through the area; if the railroad
comes through town, it will prosper immeasurably. If not,
the town is doomed. |
| Is she in it much? |
| Often and throughout, but it's an all-star
cast, which means she is not onscreen constantly. |
| When should I watch out
for her? |
| Near the beginning, intermittently until
almost the end. |
| Well known co-stars: |
| Lots...Milla Jovovich, Wes Bentley, Sarah
Polley, and Peter Mullan |
| And
is it any good? |
| Yes, but it is a flawed success, slow-moving
at times. Some incredibly emotional scenes were cut short.
Just when you think you're going to get hit with it, it
moves to a scene about something trivial, and which lasts
WAY too long. Nastassja is perfect for her role. She
looks every bit like she could have an 18 year old
daughter, and yet she is also incredibly childlike and
delicate herself. And beautiful, in a pale, pathetic,
used way. (Be prepared: her character is dying of
tuberculosis!) Actually, the best term to describe her in
this movie is "haunting." |
