Ok not only does Sarah give me poems, songs or even cooks for mebut she also gives me a lot of little silly and very thoughtful presents. Due to me loving these little crazy gifts I had to make a page on my website about them. Since she has given me a lot of little gifts I have included only the best and most funny. The majority of them live in my little "Sarah's Weird Gifts Shrine", along with my Sarah's 21st TMNT fancy dress birthday party paper plate and invitation.
Ok weirdest has to be..a tin of chocolate slugs. Out of all of them this is the one which when I got it through the post, YES through the post, I thought "WHAT ON EARTH!" It rattled, was cylindrical and came through the POST, I was totally mystified over what it could be. I opened the brown wrapping to see the top of a tin, I was even more surprised, and then to remove the rest of the paper to see "mmmmmm!....milk chocolate SLUGS" I just went "OMG!" Since who on earth, other than Sarah would post me something like this!
Ok it is not as crazy as you might think. There is a reason behind it. I liked chocolate, thus why they were chocolate slugs and not real ones ;). Also I had had a cold recently and I had commented how when I blew my nose the remains on the hanky looked like dead slugs. This had been just mentioned in a conversation. Thus, (here is where the lovely thought behind it comes from) she got me a tin of slugs to make me feel better, because of what I had said about the slugs.
I still to this day have not opened themand will never do so. Ok you might be thinking... "Why and doesn't that say you are not appreciative of the gift, since it is something to be eaten?" The reason isok it is quiet an embarrassing reasonI love the sound the tin makes when I move itsince it reminds me of when I got it. If I was to open it I would lose the sound. Due to me loving the sound so muchI have recorded it, so that you can listen to it.
Another "it came through the post" item! A miniature toy car. Again it was another thing which I thought "WHAT ON EARTH" as I picked up my mail. Again it was another thing which made a noise through the packaging. It felt like Christmas or a birthday where you guess what it is from rattling it. You know you just want to hear the sound. Anyway it was a thoughtful gift, since I like F1, and it was of an F1 car. She had seen it at the supermarket and thought of me. Which made me smile, knowing that just seeing items which are to do with what I like, reminds her of me.
One thing that did get me about the gift, was the fact that it had a "you must be such an age if you are to use it" logo on it. Do you think Sarah was trying to tell me something about the age I acti.e. 3yr+. :P
Next on the strange gift list isPEGS. Ok but they are not normal pegsthey are miniature. When I say miniature I mean MINIATURE! They are seriously cute and were so useful at pegging things up on my notice board. LOL no I do not own any clothes small enough to peg up my washing with them!
Ok this one is not exactly a gift, but it is still funny. A postcard from Bulgaria. This is another of my treasured possessions; since I received it 1 month AFTER Sarah came back from Bulgaria. Needless to say that when I got it I did think, "Sarah must have thought I was really rotten not to thank her for her postcard, she sent over 1 month ago!" So in true Ruth style I emailed her saying BIG THANKS for the card, highlighting the fact of how long it had taken for it to come, while still sniggering to myself over the thought of how a carrier pigeon would have probably delivered it quicker.
This gift Sarah had me really stumped over. She decided that she would tell me she had got me a little gift and would give me clues but would not tell me what it was. I was stumped since she said that it she had got herself a matching one and that it was something she used at work. Needless to say I did not guess what it was. Well when someone gives you those clues, would you think someone had got you a key ring?
Ok now you might be thinking "Big deal she got you a key ring, so what!" What was really special and made me smile and have a warm fuzzy feeling inside was the fact that she had gone and got our photo put on the key ring along with the words, "Best Mates, Together Forever". What made it even more special was the fact that she had one too. Also it was the fact it was something we were going to use daily. This was only highlighted how great this was when I was with Sarah, in Abbey, (OMG another bank being important to our friendship, read here). Anyway Sarah was talking to the assistant and was holding her keys and I could see the key ring and it made me smile at the thought that wherever Sarah or I am we will have the other person there with us on the key ring. This meant that even when I was apart from Sarah and missing her, I just smiled knowing that with that key ring she was there with me mentally, even if it was not physically.
Ok I know this gift is not that strange nor funny. Ok it is pretty normal, but it is extremely special to me. Due to a lot of unhappy stuff happening to me before my 21st birthday, I decided that I was not going to really celebrate it. I had not mentioned to any of my friends that it was coming up. I was not expecting anyone to remember and well would not have been that upset if no one had. Anyway Sarah decided to invite me and some other friends over to hers the day before my birthday. Now you are all going "ooo she threw you a surprise party". Well no. She did not and frankly that would not have meant as much as what she did do. She had got me a present. Ok now that might not sound much to you, but to me her just saying to me "Wait here I have got you a little something for your birthday" meant a lot to me. This was simply because she had a. remembered it was my birthday without being told and b. had then got me something, even though I would have been happy enough with just her remembering and being able to see her. To me, it really did not matter what she had got me, the fact that she had got me something was everything in itself. Definitely it's the thought that counts!
Anyway she had got me a replica of Michael Schumacher winning 150 Grand Prix. I must admit out of all the replicas I have seen, it is one of the best, since in it he has his arm coming up from out of the car. Along with that she got me a computer related card, (to remind me that I am hopeless with my computer since I crashed it!) and also wrote me a poem. As you know from reading the poems & comics strip page, the poem meant a lot to me since it was about me and our friendship. The poem was worth more to me, than any expensive gift.
I literally had to choke back the tears, knowing that Sarah had gone to all this trouble for me. It made me feel really special and I hope this page lets her know how much it all really meant to me. I could have never imagined such a great birthday get together if I had tried. Thanks Sarah. :D
