British born Valery Garrett has lived in Hong Kong for more years than she likes to admit. From her early interest in traditional dress worn in Hong Kong in the 1970s, she has become an acknowledged authority on Chinese dress and accessories. Valery lectures frequently at home and overseas, and has served as consultant for museums and collections around the world. Her personal collection of Chinese dress was acquired and exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as well as other museums in Asia and Australia. She is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong.
A fashion designer turned full time freelance writer, she specialises in Chinese culture and travel, and is the author of over a hundred published articles and eleven non-fiction books.
