Britains Space
Britains Star System

Welcome to my Britains Space / Star System webpage.

In the early to mid 1980s, Britains, a UK based manufacturer, produced a series of space adventure toys for their Deetail range. The range featured several armies of space soldiers and many interchangeable vehicles.

Initially the range was called Britains Space but in 1985 the series was relaunched as Britains Star System.

Some of the vehicles in the range seem to have different names in the catalogues compared to names on the toy's packaging, which can cause confusion. However, catalolgue numbers stayed the same. When Britains Space became Britains Star System both names and numbers changed to aid further confusion.

Britains Space

The Space series pitted the Stargard Commandos and the Cyborg Assault Squads against the Alien Troopers and Mutant Invaders.

The vehicles were designed so that they were interchangeable with other Britains Space toys, thus providing many play possibilities.

The Stargard's vehicles were yellow and red, whilst the Alien's craft were green and black.

Stargards

There were eight Stargard figures. Six were available in boxsets or sold individually, whilst seated female and male figures were available with certain vehicles.

The height of all the Britains Space figures was about 6cm approx.

At least four different heads were used for the human Stargards; a brown haired man, a black haired man, a mustachioed long haired man and a white haired woman.

All the Britains Space figures (except seated figures) had removable die-cast metal bases. Certain vehicle components had slots in which the figures could be fixed once this base was removed.

Four of the heads featured on the Stargards.

Male seated Stargard in the 9110 vehicle.

Female seated Alien Trooper and Stargard.

Cyborg Assault Squad

There were six cybernetic figures in this set.

At the time of manufacture the figures had gold helmets and bronze attachments on the rubbery extensions.

However, due to a chemical reaction between the paint and the rubber used on the toy, the gold paint gradually turned green, slimy and smelly.

Cybertron and Robot

This was a bizarre figure / vehicle that appeared to be at a different scale from the rest of the Britains Space toys.

Similar to the Cyborg Assault Squad in design, the Cybertron had a small red robotic rider which was very primative compared to the other figures.

Alien Troopers

Like the Stargards, there were eight figures in this set, six standing and two seated.

The difference being each Alien Trooper wore a red helmet instead of transparent glass dome.

Another difference was that the Alien Troopers carried different weaponary from the Stargards.

Sometime after the production of the UK original versions, Argentinian manufacturer, Anabea, produced a series called Seres Entra Terrestres. These were simple plastic copies of the Alien Trooper/Raider toys sprayed in brightly coloured chrome paint.

Mutant Invaders

Six Mutant Invaders assisted the Alien Troopers.

They were cursed by the same problem that befell the Cyborg Assault Squad. The paint and rubber used reacted, even though the colours stayed the same, they still ended up being slimy and sticky to touch.

Mutants

Six further mutants aided the Alien Troopers.

Whereas all the other figures were based on the same bodies, the Mutants were completely different.

They also came equipped with their own weaponary.

The lime green colouring suggests the figures glow in the dark, sadly they don't!

Muteron and Master

Like the Cybertron, the Muteron seemed to be at a different scale to the rest of the Britains Space toys.

It is almost as if it was from a completely different toy series.

Also like the Cybertron, the reptillian Muteron had a small plastic Master to ride it.

Britains Star System

The Star System series pitted Starforce Troopers (or Forcegards) and Force Cyborgs against Star, Mutant and Terror Raiders.

Like the figures, the Star System vehicles were basically re-coloured versions of the Britains Space range. However there were some stylish new designs added to the series.

The Forcegards fleet were white and red, whilst the Raiders craft were white and blue.

Britains Star System figures

Britains re-used the figures from Britains Space to populate the Britains Star System.

The rubber parts on the Mutant Raiders and Force Cyborgs still had the same chemical reaction problems, the colours held, but they still became slimy in time.
