Web Guardian Angel

"Here to help protect you and your children ..."

You have found the Web Guardian Angel!

Primary mission: to provide awareness of the dangers of internet chat rooms and warn innocents of the situations they may be facing by talking and 'camming' (sending images of themselves via a web camera) with people they don't know around the world.

The sad fact is that many people are not who they may claim to be on the internet, and the powers to control this medium are near impossible.  So, in the style of the famous Guardian Angels found on the rail system in New York (although it should be stressed that we are in no way connected to them or their activities), we, the Web Guardian Angels do our best to serve and to protect as best we can those who are vulnerable in the online world.

Of course it's not all doom and gloom out there.  We do see that there are clear benefits to proper chat room use, and not everyone is using it for underhand purposes.  For some families who live great distances apart it is a wonderful way to keep in touch, and many people meet others of like-mind through these services.  It would be very wrong for us to condemn all chat rooms, lumping them together as all bad as it is clearly not so.  But we do want to make sure people are aware of what they may be getting into by chatting with strangers, and we actively enter chat rooms to monitor such activity.  Certain rooms appear more likely than others to attract the 'wrong kinds of people' (for example, those aimed at teens - innocently set up for the use of teens, but exploited by adults to access that age group).  In such cases, use of web cameras may be monitored by us, and we are sometimes able to warn young people (all too often, children) that they may have been observed by adults rather than the teens they had believed themselves to be communicating with.

In one instance the initial chat took place in a room designated for teens and this particular conversation began in the public domain.  It became apparent that one user seemed particularly interested in another, and the user profile of the first user indicated that this was a teenage girl in the US.  This was proven when she admitted us access to view her camera.  She had also permitted access to the other user, and her chat continued with them.  We then were able to obtain permission to view the camera of the pursuant user, only to find that this was a man in what appeared to be his early fifties, passing himself off as a twelve year old (it stated this young age in his profile page, complete with a photograph of a boy, which was supposed to be him, masturbating).  The man indecently revealed himself to this girl and encouraged her to remove items of clothing.  Some of the requests he made upon the girl were too disgusting to appear here, but we then intervened by sending the girl a private message to explain who we were, and to tell her that the user watching her was not who he claimed to be.  She instantly withdrew that users access to her camera, and we can only hope that she will think twice before trusting so easily in the future.

We operate on an entirely voluntary basis, propelled by the sadness we feel at the thought of all the children, and indeed adults, who enter into uncomfortable situations in chat rooms.  Donations are welcome for the progression of our cause, please email us for details of how you can help.  This site is newly established and so will grow tremendously in the near future, providing advice and information as it becomes available, so please bookmark us and keep checking back.

Thank you, and please keep yourselves and those you love safe!
