Wakiso Integrated Rural Development Association (WIRDA) is a Non Government community based umbrella Organization founded in December 2001 operating in the Rural Sub Counties of Wakiso District.
It was formed by a group of visionary professionals drawn from various fields to try and bridge the gap between policy making bodies, international organizations, development agencies and unexposed Community Based Organisation's (CBO's) particularly marginalized women organizations.
It is a company limited by guarantee and is also registered with the NGO Board Registration No. S 5914/3719.
WIRDA through official Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with several CBOs, and Faith based groups, is in collaboration with 55 CBO and 8 FBO group organisations, all with a total individual membership of 2000.WIRDA seeks to foster and encourage development among the marginalized people and the civil society. WIRDA emphasizes participatory and people-centered approaches to human and social development through implementing activities that focus on strengthening the capacity of local CBO's and Faith Based (FBOs) Organizations.

"It's not important how much you give. What's important is that you give - be it just a thought, a few minutes, a word, or a deed."
    WIRDA Chairman Mr. kintu Michael
    Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the Founders and Board members of WIRDA, and on my own behalf, A very warm welcome to all of you to the WIRDA website to learn more on what we are, where we are, and what we do.
As you read this message, while the issues of HIV/AIDS Prevention ,Treatment , Mitigation, Malaria, School fees after the children graduate from Universal Primary Education(UPE) and Environment destruction due to the rapid urbanization in the rural parts of the Ugandan Wakiso district are visible, out there a sizeable majority of our brothers and sisters are wondering where their next meal would come from. There is no need to underscore the importance of reducing this inequity, because it is a global digital divide.
What is crucial is the need for convergence of - each one of us - individuals, CBOs and faith based groups, corporations, academia, thinkers, development professionals, and civil society, to espouse this war against poverty. As one American President once said, think of what you can do for the nation, not what the nation can do for you.
All of us - each of us - needs to ask ourselves this question - what have we and what can we do for the society? Only then you too can create a better tomorrow, a better world for our children to inherit. The very purpose for which WIRDA was set up, and the very essence of its activities is being a credible, and effective leader for channeling resources from concerned local ,national , regional and global development partners into community-led development initiatives.
WIRDA with its strong social conscience, a passion combined with professionalism, discipline and integrity, strives to promote best practices on a war footing for a better tomorrow.
I invite you to join me, and WIRDA, to create a better tomorrow by collectively working towards a Poverty, HIV/AIDS and Malaria free world as prescibed in the Millennium Development Goals.
It's not important how much you give. What's important is that you give - be it just a thought, a few minutes, a word, or a deed.

    Kintu Michael
    WIRDA Chairman
