In olden times when life was slow and folk were simple, they didn’t feed cows brains to cows, they didn’t spread human excrement on crop fields and they didn’t build housing estates on flood plains. In recent times thousands of people have had their homes flooded, conclusive proof of the damage done to the climate by car exhaust emissions. So what can be done? Environmental fuel tax, that should stop the flood plains from flooding. |
In the 1970’s satellites allowed man to see that there was a hole in the ozone layer but how big was it in the 1870’s or the 1770’s? is it getting smaller and if so is this a good or a bad thing?
Two thousand years ago the Congo was open grassland (BBC Congo) but today it is rain forest, isolated from other forests it is populated not by forest animals but by grassland creatures that are only just beginning the long evolutionary process that their new environment demands. All this happened because the region became warmer and wetter, and there was nothing man could do to influence it one way or the other.

In the winter of 2000 Southern England experienced the worst flooding since 1883, but what caused the flooding of 1883? The experts of the time were in no doubt, it was caused by exhaust emissions from the rapidly expanding network of steam railways, after all , it stood to reason, all that steam had to go somewhere. |
